Like I said, pretty inelegant (which is me being very diplomatic given the context).
Then you can uncheck the 'all day' in the reminder and you have a reminder linked to the mail which you can set alarms for etc. You can then drag that event into the reminders panel and delete it from from the date. But you can drag them onto a date, which creates an event. You still can't drag a mail into the Reminders panel (used to be to dos). So now we have to find another mail application that can schedule with a calendar app, or there's an inelegant workaround: The removeal of to dos has completely broken my simple scheduling workflow.
Yes Apple seem to have removed to do functionality from mail, which, although it wasn't very elegant, at least had some integration with iCal so we could schedule tasks from within mails.
